Job Details

Job Designation: Software Engineer

Qualification: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Experience: Freshers / 0 – 2 years

Required Skill Set

• Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++ and Python. Knowledge of the Seastar framework is a bonus.
• Solid understanding of version control systems, particularly Git, and experience with Linux operating systems.
• Experience with container technologies and performance benchmarking tools to ensure efficient system operations.
• Familiarity with SQL databases including Db2, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, and SQL Server.
• Strong background in software development with a focus on large-scale distributed systems projects.
• Excellent debugging skills, both for live systems and offline core files, ensuring robust and reliable software solutions.
• Experience working on open source projects, contributing to community-driven software development efforts.
• Experience with Ceph, or similar storage solutions, is desirable.
• Ability to manage multiple software projects simultaneously while adhering to tight deadlines.
• Effective communication skills for collaboration across global and multi-office development/testing teams.

Job Description

As a Software Engineer in IBM’s Ceph engineering organization, you will be integral to the Core RADOS and Crimson team. This role requires a proactive individual who is excited about designing and implementing new features to enhance the functionality and performance of Ceph components. You will work closely with a global team of engineers to develop and test features for the Ceph distributed storage system, including the Object Storage Daemon (OSD), Ceph Monitor, Ceph Manager, Ceph Messenger, and BlueStore.

Your responsibilities will include designing, developing, and testing features for Core RADOS/Crimson based on user feedback and product priorities. You will collaborate with engineering teams, quality assurance, product management, and the open-source Ceph community to ensure high-quality software delivery. You will also monitor and address issues identified during various testing phases, provide feedback on code and designs, and assist in building and executing test plans.

This role offers the chance to work on cutting-edge technology and contribute to a dynamic and active open-source community. You will have the opportunity to innovate by implementing new capabilities in the next-generation Crimson OSD, which is built for high performance.
